The Mineral Belt Trail
The Mineral Belt Trail is a scenic and historic recreational trail that spans approximately 11.6 miles through the heart of Leadville. This high-altitude trail, situated at over 10,000 feet above sea level, offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and showcases the area's rich mining history with interpretive signs and displays along the route. What to Know
Mileage
The Mineral Belt Trail spans 11.7 miles, welcoming travelers in both directions. Look for the round metal mile markers that rotate clockwise along the route.
Emergency
The trail is equipped with colored marks on the pavement to aid emergency response location. In case of an emergency, make reference to the color on the trail and/or find the nearest mile marker for precise location information.

For the latest updates on trail conditions, please view our trail conditions above. Our dedicated snowcat operators are dispatched shortly after major storms to ensure safe and accessible paths.
The Leadville Loppet
The Leadville Loppet is an annual event held in on the last Saturday of February. You can find event details and registration information for the 5, 10, 22, and 44-kilometer race here.
Shelters
You'll find shelters spaced every few miles along the trail for your convenience and refuge. Check the map for specific shelter locations.
Hazards
Please avoid departing from the trail as it is not recommended. Historic structures can pose hazards, and there are open mine shafts, along with privately owned adjacent land.
Be Courteous
Kindly show courtesy to fellow trail users. If you come across any violations or vandalism, please report them. Note that motorized vehicles are not permitted on the trail. For more rules and guidelines, consult other information panels at the kiosk.
Dogs
In accordance with county law, please keep your dogs on a leash. Remember to clean up after your pets by picking up their waste.
